The "light" came on when I read this book! May 11, 1998 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
After many years working with small businesses as a CPA, I can attest to the fact that Gerber's right on the money for identifying why most small businesses fail.Having systems which keep the owners and employees focused on the goals and visions of the company are very much lacking in many small businesses. It is truly liberating to see ideas which lay out the key areas of good business management. None of these ideas are new, it's just the genius that Gerber uses to organize his material which makes it very practical to use and to internalize. I think every small business owner should read it. If they do, learning to improve their business will come much more routine and part of their natural thinking process.
Most valuable business advice I've ever read... December 18, 1997 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book emphasized concepts I thought about and even started before, but had never seen articulated like this. Gerber's style really pulls you into the message and makes E-myth an interesting and personal read. I finished it in 2 sessions - I couldn't put it down! The book really made me see my business in a different light and will change the way I operate from here on out. A previous reviewer mentioned that systems stifle creativity. NOT TRUE. As a matter of fact, systems are quite liberating. I run a creative business and systems allow us spend more time doing our jobs (being creative) and less time figuring out HOW do our jobs. At any rate, E-myth is the single most valuable piece of business literature I've ever read. Period.
This is one of the most dangerous business books I've seen. December 14, 1997 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't believe so many other readers love this book. While I believe systems are important to running a business I also think they stifle creativity. Moreover, I believe the American public is sick and tired of the commoditization of products and services which is essentially what happens when systemization occurs. Overall, this book is not about running a business or entrepreneurship. It's a book about running away from business. Bankers, other lenders and other interested parties can smell that kind of lack of enthusiasm...
Required reading of anyone in business for themselves. December 14, 1997 Owning a small business for 2yrs now, I thought the things this book said before I read it. I've read other books on marketing and business development, but none put it all together in a real-world context such as this. Believe, learn and do everything this book says, by this I mean operate your business as a "franchise modle", and watch yourself and your business change shape and gain more focus. Take the advice from an entrepenuer, if that's what you aspire to be, read this book, or better yet, get it on tape and then wear it out! brittolly@aol.com owner FM Enterprises
Lifesaver, Worksaver, Heartachesaver November 5, 1997 Wish I could have read this book three years ago. Would have changed my financial life dramatically. Highly recommend it to anyone in business for themselves or thinking about it. Could save you thousands of dollars, much heartache and many headaches and disappointments. Please read this first! Couldn't put it down that evening until I had read over 120 pages. Would gladly trade $1000 for the knowledge I gained from reading it.
