Well written, interesting, and fun to read. January 9, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Fast Real Estate Profits in Any Market by Sebastian Howell
This is an extremely well written and interesting book. One reason I found it credible is that it gives lots of warnings to be cautious, yet details how success in the real estate business is possible. So it's balanced. Another positive comment is that the book explains terms well, so that a complete novice knows what's going on. It's thorough, but never becomes tedious. The book explains that flipping is not only a means to an income, but is very satisfying on other levels. Restoring an old house is a creative endeavour, and providing buyers with a home they love is richly rewarding on an emotional level.
The way this book is written appeals to me and is in sync with my learning style. It's very linear, and discusses the process of flipping step-by-step. It explains clearly the pitfalls you may encounter along the way, and how to address them.
The book includes sample documents, and a comprehensive glossary.
I really can't find a reason to give this book fewer than five stars out of five. I have never even considered a career in real estate, let alone flipping, but I found the book very interesting.

House Flipping Made Easy October 4, 2006 15 out of 19 found this review helpful
One of the biggest misconceptions about house flipping is it requires a great deal of money and paperwork. After reading this book, I learned that house flipping is not just for the wealthy and well-connected. Fast Real Estate Profits in Any Market breaks down the flipping process into easily understood segments.
I found the chapter devoted to the legal end of house flipping especially helpful because this area tends to overwhelm and discourage people who are interested in house flipping. Four different types of mortgages are described, along with tips to help you present an impressive picture of yourself to potential lenders. The chapter also includes samples of standard legal documents commonly used in the industry, including a deed of sale and a contractor agreement. This allows the reader to review these documents at their leisure so that they are not shell-shocked when confronted with them during the house flipping process.
This book also includes a detailed chapter about what to look for in a potential house and an extensive glossary of legal and financial terms. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in house flipping, but is nervous about the legal and financial aspects of the process.

A good book for those interested in Real Estate Flipping August 21, 2006 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
Sebastian Howell begins the book with an explanation of why real estate is a great field to make a lot of money in. Howell also tries to present as many cons as possible, in order to make sure the reader knows the risks involved. While the benefits and reward can be very high, the risks are also pretty high, and Howell wants to make sure you understand that.
The only real problem I had with the book is the style in which it's written. It feels like it moves all over the place. As a reader, I felt a little put off by the way Howell seemed to jump back and forth. As much as I appreciated that Howell would try to give me all the information I might need to decide if this is the right field for me, I felt that I was asked to think about my decision too many times. If the information in the book isn't enough to put me off, then being told to think about it won't make a difference.
Because the book seems very thorough and Howell goes to pains to provide as much detail and explanation as possible, I thought the book valuable for those interested in this type of business. For the person very new to real estate and selling, it should work very well. For those who have a little more experience in the field, you might want to mainly skim and read only those parts you need more help with.
As far as tips and secrets go, Howell appears to have done a reasonable job. There are many tips that the first-timer, especially, may not think of or know to think about. Of course, unless you have been in the real estate industry for quite some time, there will always be something you may not know. And, Howell has made a great effort to cover as much information as possible in order to give you the tools to make it in this business. There is even an extensive glossary in the back of the book for those who are unfamiliar with different real estate-related terms.
All in all, I would recommend this book for those who are seriously interested in making this a full-time business. As Howell says, there is a lot of money to be made if you do it right. And I think this book will help those who want to do it right...even if they aren't more familiar with the industry than the average home owner.
