4 out of 5 stars A Good Encouragement When Life Doesn't Make Sense   February 20, 2007
8 out of 8 found this review helpful

Whether going through the loss of a job, loved one, divorce, or any other difficult situation, Dobson encourages the reader to keep trusting in God and His goodness when trials come.

The book's chapters are as follows:

1. When God Doesn't Make Sense
2. The Betrayal Barrier
3. God Makes Sense Even When He Doesn't Make Sense
4. Acceptance or Despair
5. He Will Deliver Us, but If Not
6. Questions and Answers
7. The Adversity Principle
8. Faith Must Be Tough
9. The Wages of Sin
10. More Questions and Answers
11. Beyond the Betrayal Barrier

While Dobson does mention that some of our hardships result from our bad choices, he is also quick to add that some of life's trials happen to us because that's just the way life is!

A great encouragement to anyone who is going through difficult struggles and also to help prepare someone before they do go through struggles.

Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars When God Doesn't Make Sense   January 11, 2007

A friend from church gave me this book as my husband and I were stuggling with heartache and trials as as we were trying to keep our faith and understand why our son was in the hospital dying as a result of a head on collision which was caused by a drunken driver. Our faith is what kept us going each day and prayers. This book is one I will read again and again. Dr Dobson brought hope to us through this book. I purchased two copies of this and gave them to friends who were also dealing with loved ones that had been in automobile accidents. I personally took one day at a time as it was so much to face each day and and still do as I see our son continue to struggle after almost a year. God is good and He is faithful and I will continue to put my trust in Him as the book tells one....God has plans and purposes for our lives only we are not privy to them.

4 out of 5 stars Must by accompanied with prayer   January 7, 2007

I noticed the review titled "Not meant for thinkers" and while I do not come to the same conclusion, I did experience some of his frustration. I am a huge Dr. Dobson fan and have read and enjoyed many of his books. I expected this book to have a good solid answer, but it doesn't - probably because one does not exist. It actually shook my faith even more to read about these amazing, selfless, Godly people whose desparate life and death pleas to God were not answered. Through much prayer I did find some peace. We will all, without doubt, face heartache in this life. What determines whether or not our prayers will be answered the way we want is often beyond our comprehension. But we can choose to face those difficult times with a God who loves us, promises to comfort us, and wants a relationship with us.

5 out of 5 stars Does Your Tragedy Prove You're Going To Hell?   December 24, 2006

Dr. Dobson shows with Bible versus and biography that having tragedy in your life doesn't prove you're going to Hell, like so many people these days would have you belive!

4 out of 5 stars BAM!   October 24, 2006

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, BAM! Life hits you over the head with a rock. I was sent this book when my husband passed away. It was comforting to know so many other people, including members of the clergy, think God does not make sense all the time. Since life can bring down the rain pretty hard, this book brings it back full circle. I also recommend Joyce Meyer, Battlefield of the Mind in addition to this. Once you have been attacked by life challenging events, satan can really take ahold of your mind and have a field day.
