Old Hat April 29, 2008 19 out of 33 found this review helpful
Anyone reading a newspaper such as USA today with its state by state news coverage in small fortune cookie length snippets, along with reading just the headlines on yahoo or google news, or watching the nightly news in their location can get the same information for a lot less then the cost of this book.
I paged through the book and all it told me was that baby boomers are going to sell their homes that are too big for them after the kids they raised have moved out to move into a home somewhere else. Yet, right next to this book was another on the shelf that made the assertion - young people today can't afford a home or apartment that is like their parents so they're staying home until the age of 30, not leaving a lot of time for the baby boomers to make long term decisions, like moving to a smaller town.
Then there's the issue of baby boomers having a 2nd house or vacation home that they will need to liquidate to afford the cost of living and that will lead to a increase in housing availability (glut) and lower prices for those in the middle to later years of the boomer generation.
Boring book that was outdated before it was printed. She should have a website that sells subscriptions to predictions on what the boomers are doing and I just caught the CNBC interview with the author and she even says that boomers are not going where their parents went in their senior years but are doing individual pursuits. Well if that's the case, then how can a book be written about a group that is acting as individuals? Each chapter would have to be about 1 person.
Don't waste your money.
great practical advice from a real estate genius April 29, 2008 14 out of 20 found this review helpful
I've loved and given numerous people Corcoran's book USE WHAT YOU'VE GOT for years. It is a terrific handbook for success with hilarious stories. This book too is a terrific handbook, but for real estate planning. She's picked out and points out the best spots around the country (and world) to live "next" whether that's for retirement or a toe in the water with a second home. The book is practical, useful, and gave me a look at places around the country to certainly check out.
