5 out of 5 stars Excellent no-nonsense guide for the entrepreneur   August 7, 2002
Smart Fast is an indispensable guide for business owners. I would have avoided many pitfalls if this book had been available when I started my own business several years ago. Jean Sifleet's background as an attorney, CPA and entrepreneur has given her a unique perspective on the issues that business owners face. I particularly appreciated the book's format, which presented each subject clearly and concisely without any wasted filler.

4 out of 5 stars Great reference gets emerging business owners up to speed   July 31, 2002
Attorney Jean SiFleet does a great job presenting complex topics in a clear and unassuming way. The Smart Fast Desk Reference is a must have for the busy business owner who needs an introduction to (or a review of) what it takes to run a successful business.

5 out of 5 stars A great read for a busy entrepreneur   July 29, 2002
This is a great book for someone starting a business. It is clear, concise, and easy to read. Contrary to some of the books on the same topic is not overwhelming.

It is a great reference book for someone starting a business. It gives a concise overview of legal topics that the entrepreneur will encounter. It isn't a substitute for using professional services but it certainly is a good starting place for someone who needs some timely advice in areas that they don't normally deal with or understand.

The business planning section is especially helpful for new and existing companies take account of the current state of the business. Then working in the 1-2-3 approach that the author outlines, the reader is able to map out an action plan to reach business goals.

This would be a great gift for someone starting a business!

The "Smartfast" Guide is on the top of my list of reference books for my clients. As a business development consultant I know that new business owners need simple, practical advice that keeps them out of trouble as they develop their business. The best way to help busy entrepreneurs is to provide them with simple, easy to apply information. The most significant benefit this book offers is a framework for decision making processes to effectively solve common business and legal challenges. Therefore, in addition to being a great reference book, "Smart Fast" gives the entrepreneur important tools to continuosly solve problems.

I recommend this book for all new business owners. it is on my recommended reading list for my business start-up course.
